Well-known executive steps into managing director role at financial group
Bekim Merdita, a founding member of Edison Financial – which became Rocket Mortgage Canada – has joined Questrade Financial Group as its new managing director, mortgage and real estate.
Merdita said in a LinkedIn post he was “excited to share” his new role and the “mission of helping Canadians through the homeownership journey.” He said “amazing updates will follow in time, but for now it’s back to building which is exactly where I love to be.”
He served as executive vice president at Rocket Mortgage Canada from December 2022 to June 2025. Beginning as Edison Financial, the company grew from an eight-person startup to a team of more than 140 members, originating over $2 billion in mortgages and eventually merging with US mortgage giant Rocket.
In March this year, Rocket announced that it would be winding up its Canadian operations and focusing solely on the US market, a move that was finalized by the end of June.
Merdita’s career in the industry began as an associate at Quicken Loans, a role in which he earned the titles of Triple Crown, Presidents Club Mortgage Banker, and director of mortgage banking. He also played a part in pioneering the national sales team for wholesale lending at QLMS, now known as Rocket Pro TPO, in 2018.
He has been a board member and president-elect for the W.E. Care For Kids Foundation since March 2020.
Questrade is an online brokerage and wealth management firm which, in 2022, announced the launch of QuestMortgage, a digital mortgage service designed to help Canadians seeking to buy homes or renew their mortgages.
