An international path to success in Canadian mortgages
Canadian Mortgage Professional is proud to celebrate the brokers who ranked among the nation’s Top 75 – those who achieved remarkable volumes in one of the toughest markets in recent memory. Among this elite group is Danny Ibrahim of Key Rate Mortgage in Ottawa, who secured an impressive sixth place on the list.
For Ibrahim, this recognition reflects years of dedication and an international journey through the mortgage industry that has shaped his expertise.
“I’m very grateful. I’m very thrilled. We knocked some people off the Top 75 list, and we made it. I hit number six in Canada. I’m very happy – it’s exciting times, very hard work, a lot of dedication that came with it.”
Ibrahim began his career in California in 2005, before moving through turbulent markets in the U.S. and Dubai, where he gained invaluable banking and compliance experience. Returning to Canada, he established himself in Ottawa and eventually built his own independent brokerage. Today, his team counts more than 60 agents – but his Top 75 achievement came solely from his personal volume.
“Those volumes were only based on my targets, not the team’s. If we included the team, I think we would have been number one, which was pretty cool.”
Even amid a challenging economic backdrop, Ibrahim has stayed focused on his role: serving clients and financing properties.
“I don’t focus on politics, trade wars, or predictions. As a broker, you have one job: finance a property, whether it’s a purchase, refinance, or debt consolidation. That’s what I do – I just get it done.”
His advice for brokers aspiring to reach the Top 75 is straightforward: build structure and invest in support.
“You definitely need an assistant or processor to organize your pipeline. It’s about organization, good reputation, and being in the business long enough to build trust. You can’t just become a broker in one year and expect to be Top 75. It’ll take five to ten years, at least.”
