Alternative mortgage products are arguably more important than ever to the Canadian housing market as the country’s biggest lenders tighten their belts. We caught up with Imran Thaver and Matthew Sherriff from National Bank – Optimum Mortgage to hear about how they’re viewing the current market.

00:25 I just say it's a great event. obviously a lot of local uh local folks that we have good relationships with at history together. And I think uh as we grow and
00:32 expand as a network and kind of get bigger and come together with the brand,
00:35 I think it'll work well for the entire broker segment and really enhance our relationships that we have in the market.

00:49 you know, it's business as usual for now. Uh obviously patience will be required. We're in the middle of a merger. There's a lot of things going on
00:56 um from that perspective, but reach out to your BDMs, do what you normally would do. We're here to help you and uh give you advice that uh fits for your business.
01:09 Yeah, absolutely. I think the market right now is perfectly uh ready for some more alternative solutions. And I think
01:17 for us, we're positioned really well to be able to help uh borrowers help their borrowers uh through different times in
01:24 the market. So, we're seeing valuation challenges. We're seeing individuals that perhaps have some bruised credit.
01:29 Uh a lot more business for self individuals in market. And our products are tailored to providing solutions for those individuals.
01:41 Yeah, alternative lending has been growing for obviously a long time. I've been in this market for about 10 years.
01:46 Uh it's a lot of diversity. It's a common thing for brokers. A lot of them do a lot of prime business and just diversifying their business to open up other revenue streams for them I think
01:54 is probably a key key message everybody needs to take into consideration.
02:04 Uh I think it's a matter of I guess that's a loaded question. There's so many reasons for us. Uh broad diversity.
02:11 Uh we have a very experienced sales team and a great network of people and we're just a lot bigger now. It's a lot more opportunity to work together as we head forward. Um we have great products,
02:20 great solutions and you know we kind of stand alone in a lot of areas where we can provide advice that necessarily maybe isn't available at other opportunities.
02:28 I I just we got the best people. You know our our BDMs are are top-notch. Uh they're here to help our brokers and uh utilize them to run your deals through.
