NAB announces executive leadership changes

Bank restructures leadership team as part of transformation strategy

NAB announces executive leadership changes

NAB has revealed a series of changes to its executive leadership structure, effective from Dec. 1, as part of its ongoing transformation efforts.

Shane Conway (pictured top) has been named group executive of transformation, and will report directly to Andrew Irvine, group chief executive officer. In this role, he will be responsible for the delivery of NAB’s technology modernisation and simplification initiatives.

Sharon Cook, group executive of customer and corporate services and group general counsel, will retire from the bank at the end of December.

From the beginning of December, group chief operating officer Les Matheson will assume responsibility for customer and corporate services. This remit will include customer services, corporate affairs, climate, and group governance.

A new position, executive, group general counsel, is being established and will report to Matheson. Jon Benson, currently chief legal officer, corporate and customer divisions legal, will step into this role and oversee legal and regulatory matters.

These changes follow a series of recent appointments to NAB’s senior ranks. In August, the bank named Inder Singh as permanent group chief financial officer, with Singh also taking on the responsibilities of group executive of strategy. In June, NAB appointed Pete Steel as group executive for digital, data and artificial intelligence. Earlier in the year, Andrew Auerbach was named group executive, business and private banking, as part of a broader leadership reshuffle.

“These changes enable our strategic ambition by bringing together key programs of work that support faster delivery of simpler and better customer experiences,” said Andrew Irvine (pictured right), group chief executive officer at NAB. “The changes also reflect the ongoing renewal of our executive team and the depth of talent and experience we have across NAB.

Shane’s promotion further elevates the importance of our ongoing technology modernisation. He will work closely with Patrick Wright, our group executive, technology & enterprise operations, to make things simpler, easier, faster and safer for our customers and colleagues.

“I thank Sharon for her significant contribution since joining NAB in 2017 as a member of the executive leadership team. She has always demonstrated a strong commitment to do the right thing by our customers. We will miss her counsel and wish her the best in retirement.”
