Outgoing chair to retire after a decade on board

The Suncorp Group has named Duncan West (pictured) as its next chairman, set to take over following the company’s Annual General Meeting in September 2025.
West, currently a non-executive director, will replace Christine McLoughlin, who is retiring after a decade on the board, including seven years as chair.
He joined the Suncorp board in 2021 and brings over four decades of experience in insurance and financial services. He currently serves as chair of the risk committee and is a member of the audit committee.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to guide Suncorp as a dedicated general insurance company and continuing to deliver outcomes for shareholders, customers and communities,” West said on his appointment.
McLoughlin oversaw a period of significant change at Suncorp, including the group’s transition into a pure-play general insurer and the sale of Suncorp Bank. Reflecting on her tenure, she said it had been “a privilege to serve on the board of Suncorp, including as chairman.”
“I am proud of the value that has been delivered to our shareholders, through a period when we have faced significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and unprecedented weather events, and a very complex process to sell Suncorp Bank, while also delivering meaningful outcomes for our customers,” McLoughlin said.
“I am grateful for the trust and support of our shareholders throughout this journey. We have built a significantly more resilient business including investment in transformative technology. Together, with our CEO Steve Johnston, we have led Suncorp through a significant transformation to become a pure-play general insurance company.”
“Suncorp is well positioned to deliver on its ambition, and I am confident Duncan and our chief executive together will continue to lead the business successfully into its next chapter.”
