Helia launches campaign to promote LMI for investors

Lenders mortgage insurer Helia has introduced a new campaign, ‘LMI Lets Me Invest’, designed to encourage brokers and lenders to view lenders mortgage insurance (LMI) as a tool for helping rentvestors and investors access property ownership more quickly.

The campaign builds on Helia’s previous ‘LMI Lets Me In’ initiative and seeks to reposition LMI as a strategic option rather than a cost. It demonstrates how LMI can help clients who do not have a 20% deposit to purchase property sooner and begin building equity.

The trend of rentvesting  where individuals buy investment properties while continuing to rent in their preferred locations – has been on the rise. This approach allows buyers to enter the market in more affordable areas and potentially use their investment as a step towards future home ownership. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the proportion of first-home buyers purchasing as investors has increased since 2019, reflecting changes in affordability, rental costs, and lifestyle choices.

Helia’s campaign highlights that LMI can enable rentvestors and investors to start building property portfolios sooner, even with smaller deposits. The company also notes that LMI may provide tax benefits for investment properties, although it advises clients to seek professional advice for their circumstances.

LMI Lets Me Invest is about shifting perceptions,” said Greg McAweeney (pictured top), chief commercial officer at Helia. “We’re helping brokers and lenders see LMI not as a cost, but as a smart strategy, enabling more investors and rentvestors to enter the property market sooner, accelerate portfolio growth and help brokers and lenders deliver real value in guiding their journey

The campaign will be promoted through broker-focused media, webinars, podcasts, social media, and training programmes developed with industry groups and aggregators. Helia states that these efforts are part of its ongoing commitment to supporting brokers and lenders with education and resources.
