New platform streamlines self-employed loan processing and reduces paperwork for brokers

Pepper Money has introduced a new digital tool aimed at simplifying alternative documentation (alt doc) lending for self-employed borrowers.
The system, AltDoc Xpress, offers a fully digital workflow designed to replace manual paperwork and reduce processing time. It enables brokers to begin the loan application, after which clients can verify their financial details and accountants can complete and return the necessary documentation – all within a single online platform. One-time password verification is used throughout the process to ensure security and data compliance.
“We’re always looking for helpful ways to make lending more accessible and efficient – especially for the self-employed segment,” said Barry Saoud (pictured), general manager for mortgages and commercial lending at Pepper Money. “This is more than just a tech upgrade – it’s a gamechanger for the self-employed segment.
“By digitising a historically manual process, we’re giving brokers greater control, improving turnaround times, and enhancing the overall experience for all parties involved. It’s a clear example of how we’re delivering on our promise of ‘really helpful’ lending by making complex processes simpler, faster, and more secure.”
The non-bank lender said the innovation has received strong early feedback from brokers, with many highlighting the reduction in paperwork and time savings. The lender consulted brokers during development to address common frustrations around handling financial declarations for self-employed borrowers.
“One of the biggest pain points for self-employed clients has always been the back-and-forth with paperwork,” said a broker involved in the early trials. “This new workflow cuts that out completely. It’s seamless, secure, and saves us hours.”
“Pepper Money’s digital Altdoc Xpress process is a gamechanger,” another broker said. “It shows they’re listening to what brokers need – tools that make our jobs easier and help us deliver better outcomes for our clients.”
AltDoc Xpress is now available through the Pepper Money broker portal.
