Measuring success through client outcomes delivers huge results for up-and-coming broker

Infinity Group finance strategist Ashlen McKenzie wasn’t expecting to be named one of Australia’s Best Mortgage Brokers Under 35, but her deep understanding of clients and their goals made her a shoo-in. Joining MPA TV, McKenzie reflects on receiving industry recognition so early in her career and explains how she measures her own success by her clients’ outcomes and feedback – positive reviews, calls, and emails are her true yardstick. For McKenzie, there’s rarely a one‑size‑fits‑all solution: she tailors her approach for every client, from first‑home buyers to seasoned investors, ensuring each one feels supported and confident.

[00:00:00] Ashlen McKenzie: I measure success on my client's success. So when I get a lovely rate my agent review, or they just call me and tell me or email me, the better they do, the better I feel.

[00:00:17] Kylie Speer: Hello and welcome to MPA TV. I'm Kylie Speer and joining me today is Ashlen McKenzie, Finance Strategist at Infinity Group Australia. Ashlen has been recognised as one of MPA's Rising Stars 2026, Best Mortgage Brokers Under 35 in Australia. Welcome to you, Ashlen. Congratulations and thank you so much for joining us today.

[00:00:44] Ashlen McKenzie: Thank you so much. It's an absolute pleasure. It's good to be here.

[00:00:47] Kylie Speer: Well, firstly, Ashlen, you've been recognised as an MPA Rising Star for 2026. What does this recognition mean to you?

[00:00:56] Ashlen McKenzie: Honestly, it means everything to be recognized so early on. It's honestly unbelievable, to be honest with you. I honestly, I didn't expect to get this Rising Star Award so quickly. So it's, yeah, it's awesome.

[00:01:10] Kylie Speer: How do you measure success? And how does this shape the way you support your clients?

[00:01:17] Ashlen McKenzie: I measure success on my client's success. So when I get a lovely... rate my agent review, or they just call me and tell me or email me. The better they do, the better I feel. And that's how I measure my success at Infinity.

[00:01:34] Kylie Speer: Ashlen, you work with a wide range of clients from first home buyers to seasoned investors. How do you adapt your approach to ensure each person feels supported and confident?

[00:01:50] Ashlen McKenzie: It's all about knowing your clients. Right. It's, it's, it's knowing their story, knowing their why and what they're wanting to do and what their goals are as well. It's not just about the now. We also have to look at the now and the future. What are you working towards? Right. So whether it be a first home buyer that just wants to get into their first home. Amazing. Let's do that. Know what your goals are again, but with investing, it's exactly the same, right? The clients come to you, they tell you what they're looking at, what they're wanting to do. And that's how I approach it.

[00:02:19] Kylie Speer: Infinity has a strong structure and support model. Does that framework give you room to bring your own ideas, strengths and style to the table?

[00:02:29] Ashlen McKenzie: Absolutely. Absolutely. There is, you know, it's not one box fits all, right? And not every client's the same either, just like I've said. So absolutely, I can, you know, the team here is so, like, amazing that if I have any ideas, they take it on board straight away, which is really good. And it's helped me grow here as well.

[00:02:51] Kylie Speer: Well, speaking of growth, how has mentorship and collaboration at Infinity shaped your development and has being part of the team opened your eyes to new possibilities, both for your clients and your own career path?

[00:03:08] Ashlen McKenzie: Absolutely. I've been in finance since I was 18. I turned 30 a couple of months ago. So it's the only thing I know how to do. Um, but I've been at infinity for almost two years now and the 10 years prior I was at infinity, it's crazy how much you can learn in two years, put it that way, right? The amount I've been able to grow in two years, learn and just seeing how, what infinity does and how infinity works, it just shows you what's actually possible, right? Because you're not taught this kind of stuff when you work at a bank or a brokering firm. And since working at infinity, I've literally just taken off and it's been amazing. It really has been.

[00:03:48] Kylie Speer: And finally, Ashlen, what advice would you share with anyone watching, wanting to forge their own career in finance?

[00:04:04] Ashlen McKenzie: Look, starting in finance, it can be scary, right? It can be, especially if you're younger and you don't know that you don't have the knowledge or anything like that. Get into it. Honestly, it's incredibly rewarding. Well, especially working here at Infinity, it's incredibly rewarding. But one advice that I really sleep, believe in is listen to your clients, get to know them. Like I said, they're not just a number, they're not just a transaction. You need to really get to know them. And that would be my advice for client, for people wanting to get into finance.

[00:04:31] Kylie Speer: Lovely. Well, thank you so much for your time today and huge congratulations once again, Ashlen.

[00:04:37] Ashlen McKenzie: Thanks so much, Kylie. Really appreciate it. Lovely to speak with you.

[00:04:41] Kylie Speer: And thank you of course to our viewers for watching the latest episode of MPA TV. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
