Sydney brokerage goes live following Flint split

Award-winning broker Chris Bates (pictured) has officially launched his new broking brand Alcove following six months of planning.
Bates has been on quite the journey.
Having founded Canopy Private Australia 2014, Bates co-launched Flint in 2024 alongside short-lived business partner and former Shore Financial broker Christian Stevens.
Bates and Stevens, however, parted ways within less than a year, taking their respective teams with them.
Stevens retained the Flint brand under their separation agreements, while Bates rebuilt his brokerage under the Alcove brand.
The Alcove name and brand “reflects our bigger mission, aligned with our client philosophy, our competitive edge, and the direction we are heading as a team”, said Bates in an email announcing the brand launch.
“Our success is measured solely by the outcomes our clients achieve with the help of our strategic advice and the growing number who choose to partner with us each month,” he added.
“The past couple of weeks have shown markets rising all around the country in July, and auction clearance rates are strengthening,” he said of the housing market. “I believe it is essential in this update to introduce more nuance to our thinking and identify the gaps where we are not seeing genuine urgency.”
Stevens, meanwhile, continues to grow the team at Flint, having merged with Confidence Finance brokerage and recently expanding into South Australia via a merger with Sergio Stefano’s Adelaide-based brokerage Brokerage & Co.
