Bank expands role of chief data and AI officer
Macquarie Bank has named Ashwin Sinha (pictured above) as its new chief data, digital and AI officer, broadening his responsibilities as the institution continues to integrate artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches across its digital banking services.
Sinha, who joined Macquarie in 2019 as chief data and AI officer, has played a key role in shaping the bank’s data and AI initiatives. These efforts have contributed to Macquarie’s growth, positioning it as Australia’s fifth largest bank and supporting the development of customer-focused digital banking solutions.
In his new capacity, Sinha will be responsible for further embedding insights from data and AI into the design and delivery of Macquarie’s digital banking platforms. The bank expects this to support ongoing improvements in functionality and to enhance personalisation and responsiveness for its customer base of over two million Australians.
“Data gives AI context, and AI gives data purpose,” said Greg Ward, head of banking and financial services at Macquarie Group. “When used effectively together, we know they can transform digital experiences from static interfaces into intelligent and personalised services that evolve over time and anticipate customer needs.
“That’s the journey we’ve been on in recent years, and I know Ashwin’s vision and deep experience will help us further accelerate our efforts as we look to the future.”
Aiming to become the leading digital bank in Australia, Macquarie has made investments in digital banking, which has resulted in its online and mobile platforms achieving Net Promoter Scores that are consistently above those of major competitors. The bank highlights features such as rapid account opening and fast home loan approvals as examples of its commitment to advancing digital banking for both households and businesses.
