When and how did you join the finance industry?
I have over a decade of experience in finance. I began my career in financial planning and then spent nine years in aggregation, which provided me with a strong foundation. Joining Prospa allowed me to focus on my true passion; helping brokers make a meaningful impact for their SME clients.
What does your current role involve?
Every day brings new experiences! I spend a lot of my time connecting with brokers, whether it's over the phone, in person, or online. I also participate in professional development days and training sessions with aggregators and industry groups.
My main goal is to ensure that brokers understand how Prospa can assist their SME customers in thriving. There is a knowledge gap among SMEs regarding their financing options that needs to be addressed, and brokers play a crucial role in closing it.
How do you assist brokers to grow their business?
I am dedicated to empowering brokers to provide greater value to their SME clients. This involves offering practical education and support to help them incorporate cash flow lending into their business practices.
One of my favourite moments is when I demonstrate Prospa IQ to brokers and see the ‘lightbulb’ moment when they realise how much easier it can be to find solutions for their customers.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety and impact are significant. I get to workshop deals, solve problems, and build relationships with brokers at every stage of their journeys. Playing even a small part in their success and that of their customers is truly gratifying.
What’s the most important advice you can offer to a new-to-industry broker?
Don’t worry about knowing everything from the start. Stay curious. Ask questions and discuss your customers' challenges. Lean on your aggregator and lender BDMs – they are there to help you find the right solutions.
How important is broker feedback in ensuring you provide the best service?
Feedback is crucial for change. Many of our product updates and service models, such as Prospa IQ, originated directly from broker input. By listening and understanding the reasons behind feedback, we can deliver tools that truly make a difference.
What makes a great BDM or state manager?
Dependability, responsiveness, and consistency are essential for building trust. Understanding each broker’s goals and collaborating to achieve them is crucial. Be curious, provide honest feedback, and respond quickly, as there's always a customer waiting.
If there’s one thing you could change about the industry, what would it be?
I would love to see more collaboration. Sharing knowledge and supporting one another makes a significant difference, especially during tough times. A strong community benefits everyone.
Describe your ideal weekend:
I have two very active tween/teenage children, and most weekends my husband and I run them around to various sporting events, so my ideal weekend would be one where I didn’t have to do anything! A weekend lying around the pool or, even better, at a day spa, and having someone else do all the things would be amazing!
