‘SMEs are the backbone of our economy’ – ING’s Amanda Tay is on a mission to scale

Amanda Tay’s appointment as head of SME at ING in October comes at a pivotal moment as the bank intensifies its focus on business lending.

With a background steeped in transformation, strategy and leadership within the SME sector, Tay brings both experience and passion to her new role – a combination that aligns with ING’s ambitions to become a trusted partner for Australian businesses.

Tay’s journey into finance began in Dunedin, New Zealand, where her early fascination with economics led her to taking on senior roles in the banking sector.

After starting as a teller at Westpac, she quickly gravitated towards financial planning. Over the past decade, Tay has immersed herself in the SME segment, developing a deep appreciation for the diversity and resilience of small businesses.

Now at ING, Tay is on a mission to scale the bank’s SME proposition by leveraging its strong digital capabilities and customer-first ethos.

How does she intend to rise to the challenge?

To find out, MPA Pod sat down with Tay for an entertaining discussion about her career, motivation and grand designs for ING’s SME offering.
