New chapter ahead as FAMNZ prepares next leader
The Finance and Mortgage Advisers Association of New Zealand (FAMNZ) has announced the departure of country manager Leigh Hodgetts (pictured left), a key figure in the organisation’s formation and early development.
FAMNZ managing director Peter White (pictured right) praised Hodgetts’ contribution to the industry and her role in advancing the association’s mission.
“Leigh has successfully engaged with key regulatory bodies such as the Commerce Commission, and made good ground in this area,” White said. “I want to thank her for her contribution to FAMNZ and the industry at large and wish her every success in the future.”
Hodgetts helped establish an exclusive voice for advisers
White said Hodgetts had been a passionate advocate for New Zealand’s finance and mortgage advisers and was instrumental in laying the groundwork for a professional body that represents their interests.
“We are proud to have commenced this journey to stand beside advisers in our sector, who for too long have not had an exclusive voice,” he said.
Raising the industry’s profile
Despite operating in a voluntary environment where advisers are not required to join a professional body, White said FAMNZ had made strong headway.
“FAMNZ is already the recognised voice of the industry, respected across government, mainstream media and regulators, because our interest is to work in the best interests of advisers and consumers,” he said.
“We have raised the public profile of our industry, brought about real changes through advocacy, and played a part in delivering better outcomes for borrowers.”
Call for adviser unity and support
White said FAMNZ’s work would continue and reiterated the need for more advisers to support the association’s goals by joining its membership.
“Advisers must realise that the gains we achieve benefit them directly, but the industry won’t grow by accident,” he said.
“We have vast experience in professional development, growing market share and helping members become more successful through support, training and advocacy, and I’d like all finance and mortgage advisers to join with us.
“We are stronger together than doing it alone.”
New appointment to build on legacy
White will continue in his role as managing director, and FAMNZ plans to appoint a new senior leader to carry the association forward.
“[They] will build on the great work already done and help take our industry to new heights,” he said.
