Lender inks $115m, 10-year deal
One of the giants of the mortgage industry and a professional sports organization, already tied together at the top, are going to see that bond increase.
The Phoenix professional basketball teams, including the NBA’s Suns and WNBA’s Mercury, will now call the Mortgage Matchup Center home after a 10-year, nearly $115 million naming rights partnership between the Mat Ishbia-owned franchises and United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM), of which Ishbia is president and CEO.
“I’m extremely excited about this partnership as it represents two organizations that have natural alignment and a shared commitment to excellence,” Ishbia said in a release. “Arizona is one of the strongest markets for mortgage brokers, and we see a fantastic opportunity through Mortgage Matchup to help consumers better understand the value of having an expert advising them through this process to ensure they get the fastest, easiest and cheapest path to homeownership or a refinance — and greater education will ensure more consumers can take advantage of those benefits.”
According to the release, the partnership, “will raise awareness around the benefits of partnering with a mortgage broker and will collaborate to make it easier for fans to access the resources they need when purchasing or refinancing a home.”
The release also states that Mortgage Matchup will become the official mortgage partner of the building’s basketball tenants. It is already the official mortgage partner of the NBA and WNBA, thanks to a separate agreement signed in May 2024.
UWM's Mortgage Matchup educates consumers and real estate agents on the homebuying and refinancing process. It also provides a searchable database of local independent mortgage brokers.
The arena, previously named Footprint Center until Feb. 18 when it was announced it would no longer be called by that name, will host the NCAA Women's Final Four in 2026 and the NBA All-Star Game in 2027. According to the release, the arena hosts more than two million customers annually for basketball games and other events.
