Avanti Finance adds South Island BDM to support advisers

Advisers in Marlborough, Tasman, and Canterbury now have a new Avanti Finance business development manager (BDM) on the ground, after the specialist property lender appointed James Glasson (pictured) to the role.

Glasson is based in Christchurch and joins Mark Nolan, who already works with advisers in the South Island. Avanti says the pairing will give advisers more on-the-ground support as it builds its network in the region.

Bank experience for specialist deals

Glasson has more than 10 years’ experience in financial services, including roles at ANZ and Westpac. Avanti said his understanding of the adviser community and his interest in specialist lending would be valuable to its broker network.

“I’m passionate about helping advisers and their clients find lending solutions where others may see obstacles,” Glasson said.

That focus fits Avanti’s lending model. The lender, which has operated since 1989, works through a nationwide network of mortgage advisers and offers residential, commercial, investment, and development finance, including for clients whose circumstances fall outside traditional bank criteria. It also provides auto, personal, and business loans.

For advisers, a local BDM with major-bank experience can help when a deal needs a different approach from the one a mainstream lender would take.

Growing the adviser support team

Avanti now has six BDMs, supported by supported by 26 lending specialists and support staff around the country.

“We’re thrilled to welcome James to the team,” said Helen Mulligan, national sales manager – property at Avanti Finance.

She said the lender’s team would give advisers “the responsive, flexible, and personalised support they need to serve their clients and grow their business”.

The appointment follows other senior hires at Avanti this year, including Tracy Pennell as chief operating officer in September and Mark Greenfield as head of sales – auto in August.
