Edinburgh based Scottish Building Society has today announced the expansion of its regional lending footprint into the Midlands and surrounding areas, marking a significant step in the Society’s ongoing commitment to supporting brokers and borrowers across the UK with personalised service and flexible underwriting.
Previously focused on lending across Scotland and the North of England, the Society’s new geographic reach now includes Birmingham, Oxfordshire, and neighbouring counties. This move opens up access to its distinctive mortgage solutions for a wider range of customers.
“This expansion allows us to support more brokers and more borrowers particularly those whose needs don’t always fit the standard approach,” said Stephen Brown, Head of Intermediaries. “Brokers in England have actively asked for this move, having seen the tangible benefits we offer. Our aim is to deliver lending with care — and if you are not using us yet, you’re missing out’’
Tailored lending for real life
As it expands geographically, Scottish Building Society remains focused on delivering bespoke solutions that reflect real-life financial circumstances with specialist propositions that include:
• Pension-Backed Lending: Supporting borrowers in midlife by considering projected pension income to assess affordability.
• Staged Release Home Improvements: Lending based on end-value, enabling borrowers to improve and invest in their homes with greater flexibility.
• Limited Guarantee Top Slice: Offering thoughtful support for borrowers with additional backing from family.
Broker partnerships remain crucial
Scottish Building Society continues to work almost exclusively through mortgage intermediaries in England and remains deeply committed to its broker relationships supporting them with direct access to decision makers and a willingness to go beyond the algorithm.
“We know that behind every application is a real story,” added Stephen. “Whether we’re working with brokers in Edinburgh, Manchester or now Oxford and Birmingham, our approach stays the same: personal, considered, and consistent.”
