New co-chief operating officers named following COO’s exit

Barclays has made changes to its senior leadership, announcing that group chief operating officer Alistair Currie is stepping down, effective immediately. He plans to pursue a board portfolio career.
His responsibilities will now be shared between Craig Bright and Anne Marie Darling, who have been appointed as group co-chief operating officers and co-chief executive officers of Barclays Execution Services.
Bright, who joined the bank in 2020 as group chief information officer, has overseen Barclays’ technology strategy and digital transformation across its retail and institutional divisions. He brings more than three decades of experience in technology and financial services, including the design and rollout of major digital and cloud initiatives.
Darling came on board in April after a 25-year career at Goldman Sachs, where she held multiple senior roles, including as partner for the last 12 years. Her previous leadership positions include head of Global FICC Execution Services, COO of Global Securities Sales, and head of the firm’s Marquee digital strategy.
“Craig and Anne Marie each have a vast and rich professional experience and complement each other well,” said group CEO C.S. Venkatakrishnan. “We will benefit from their collaborative leadership.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Alistair for his successful tenure as group COO and head of the BX entity. I have personally benefitted from his valuable contributions to the group executive committee since 2019. Alistair leaves the COO function with a strong focus and direction in executing our strategy and wider transformation objectives.”
Barclays said both incoming executives have been working with Currie since April to support a smooth handover.
Just recently, Barclays UK announced the appointment of Roland McCormack as head of mortgage intermediaries. The newly created managing director role is designed to bolster the bank’s intermediary proposition. McCormack, who starts today, will lead strategy and engagement with broker partners.
