Brokers invited to webinar on vulnerable customers

Mortgage brokers are being invited to attend a complimentary, CPD-accredited online seminar designed to enhance their ability to identify and assist vulnerable customers.

The 30-minute webinar, hosted by Darlington Building Society, will take place at 11:30am on Sept. 16. It aims to address the latest regulatory expectations, practical steps for brokers, and the shared responsibility for providing appropriate support to clients facing vulnerability.

The session will cover the four primary drivers of vulnerability and how to identify them, recommended actions once a vulnerability is recognised, procedures for recording and sharing information, and ongoing support strategies. A question-and-answer session will follow the main presentation.

Attendance is free, and all registrants will receive a recording of the session. Brokers can register using this link.

Recent figures from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) indicate that 49% of UK adults have at least one characteristic of vulnerability, whether related to health, significant life events, resilience, or capability. Under the FCA’s Consumer Duty, brokers are expected to play a central role in recognising and responding to these needs.

“Knowing how to identify and support vulnerable customers is a vital skill for all brokers and this webinar will provide practical guidance on how to do just that,” said Christopher Blewitt (pictured right), head of intermediary distribution at Darlington Building Society.

“By working together with lenders, brokers help to ensure that vulnerable customers get the support they need and be confident that they are meeting their regulatory obligations. We think this webinar will be a great use of half an hour for brokers – equipping them with the information they need to identify and support vulnerable customers with confidence.”
