Nationwide names new head of mortgage intermediaries

Former commercial director steps up to oversee lender’s intermediary and partnership relations

Nationwide names new head of mortgage intermediaries

Nationwide Building Society has announced the appointment of Damian Thompson (pictured top) as director of mortgage intermediaries and partnerships, effective Oct. 1.

Thompson, who has served as commercial director of landlord at The Mortgage Works since early 2023, will now be responsible for managing the mutual’s intermediary relationships. His remit also includes oversight of third-party partnerships across mortgages, insurance, protection, and investments. This includes the ongoing relationship with Aviva, which underwrites Nationwide’s home insurance. Thompson will report to Henry Jordan, group director of mortgages at Nationwide.

“I’m delighted to be taking on this new role at what is an exciting time for the Nationwide Group,” Thompson said. “Intermediaries and our other partnerships are hugely important to our business, and I’m very much looking forward to building on the already fantastic relationships we have with them and will be focusing on how we can further improve the service we offer all brokers, both now and in the future.”

Thompson’s appointment follows the departure of Ian Andrew, director of intermediary relationships, who is leaving Nationwide after 18 years with the organisation.

“I feel privileged to have led the Nationwide and The Mortgage Works intermediary team for the last 18 years,” Andrew said. “I’d like to thank all my colleagues at the Nationwide Group and across the intermediary community for the tremendous support they have given us over the years and to wish Damian and the team every success for the future.”

Henry Jordan (pictured right), group director of mortgages at Nationwide Building Society, also welcomed the appointment of Thompson. “I’m really pleased to have Damian take on this role,” he said.

“His wealth of experience across the mortgage and mutual sectors will be invaluable as we strive to further strengthen the Nationwide Group’s position in the intermediary sector.

“I also want to thank Ian Andrew for his leadership and contribution to Nationwide over the last 18 years. His tireless work to support the intermediary market has ensured that Nationwide has one of the highest performing intermediary relationships teams in the industry. I wish Ian all the best for the future.”
