Former Aion Bank chief to lead digital lender's next growth phase

Tandem Bank has appointed Neil Chandler (pictured) as its next chief executive officer, pending regulatory approval.
Chandler is set to officially assume the role on June 30, as the digital bank targets further growth and continues its focus on sustainability.
Chandler brings more than three decades of experience in banking, technology, and eCommerce. He most recently led Aion Bank as CEO, where he played a key role in its acquisition by UniCredit Group — a major European fintech deal completed in 2025.
“Tandem’s known for putting customers first,” Chandler said. “Yes, the products and tech are top notch, but importantly the bank is award-winning for its customer service. That relentless customer focus – and the bank’s dual purpose helping customers transition to a greener lifestyle while saving them money along the way – is what attracted me to Tandem.”
Chandler’s appointment follows a year of financial growth for Tandem, including a 40% year-on-year increase in profit and nearly 10% revenue growth. The company’s annual revenue is approaching £100 million, with assets under management now exceeding £1.5 billion. Green lending accounted for close to 40% of total lending, reaching more than £500 million.
“Tandem’s purpose-led, inclusive approach is properly distinctive, giving consumers more affordable and accessible options to choose a greener lifestyle that makes a real tangible impact to customers’ lives – and the planet,” Chandler added.
Paul Pester, chairman of Tandem Bank, welcomed Chandler’s arrival and acknowledged the work of outgoing CEO Alex Mollart. “Alex has done a phenomenal job reshaping the ‘new’ Tandem into one of the UK’s standout digital banks,” he said. “Now with Neil on board, we’re ready for the next chapter.”
“We’ve built something special at Tandem – a profitable, high-growth fintech with a bold customer-focussed mission,” said Mollart, who is stepping down after three years at the helm. “The timing’s right for me to step down, and I know Neil’s the right leader to take Tandem even further.”
