Lenders bolster property finance teams with senior hires

Three lenders – United Trust Bank, Nottingham Building Society, and Leumi UK – have announced senior leadership appointments as they look to expand their real estate and mortgage lending businesses.

United Trust Bank has appointed Alex Tyrwhitt (pictured left) to the newly created position of director of structured property solutions.

In this role, Tyrwhitt will lead both the structured property finance and strategic partnership teams, reporting to chief commercial officer Mark Stokes. He will also work closely with key figures in the business, including Gerard Morgan Jackson, Ben Peters, and the wider team.

Tyrwhitt brings nearly two decades of industry experience, having held senior roles at Lambert Smith Hampton, GE Capital, HSBC, and most recently, Octane Capital, where he spent eight years as director of structured finance.

Nottingham Building Society has also announced that Aaron Shinwell (pictured centre) will take over as its new chief lending officer.

Shinwell joins from Santander UK, where he was commercial director of homes and oversaw mortgage strategy, pricing, proposition development, and portfolio management. During his tenure, he managed a mortgage book with 1.8 million customers and £167 billion in balances, delivering around £55 billion in lending annually.

Shinwell has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, having held senior roles at HSBC and Lloyds Banking Group. He replaces Praven Subbramoney, who is leaving the mutual. Greg Went, currently head of mortgage product and proposition, will take on the chief lending officer role on an interim basis until Shinwell assumes the position.

Leumi UK, meanwhile, has hired Neil Kermode (pictured right) as business development director. He will focus on generating new business leads in the real estate market, particularly large loans.

With more than 35 years in the industry, starting as a quantity surveyor, Kermode brings significant development finance expertise to the Leumi UK team. He joins from Canary Wharf Group, where he spent over 26 years and most recently served as director and head of development finance. In that role, he oversaw the structuring and execution of complex finance deals including construction, investment, and unsecured lending.
