She will also serve as group chief commercial officer at Coventry BS

The Co-operative Bank has announced Andrea Melville (pictured) as its new chief executive officer, marking a key leadership appointment following its acquisition by Coventry Building Society.
Melville will also serve as group chief commercial officer at Coventry Building Society. In her dual role, she will oversee trading performance and contribute to the integration of the two organisations.
Melville brings more than two decades of banking experience, having held senior positions at major banks. She joined from Santander UK, where she was head of everyday banking and business banking. Her background includes roles across personal, commercial, and private banking, both in the UK and internationally.
Her recruitment finalises the bank’s first all-female executive leadership team, following Jo Kenrick’s earlier appointment as chair. The leadership change reflects a broader transformation for the mutual banking group after Coventry’s takeover of The Co-operative Bank early this year.
“We are proud to welcome Andrea as the new CEO of The Co-operative Bank,” Kenrick said. “Her track record of innovation, strategic thinking and customer-first leadership makes her the ideal person to guide us through the next chapter. While our focus remains firmly on delivering value for our members and customers, this moment also stands as a symbol of what inclusive leadership can look like at the very top of UK financial services.”
Commenting on her appointment, Melville said she was honoured to join Coventry Building Society and The Co-operative Bank.
“The values and strong heritage of both organisations align closely with my own, and I’m looking forward to sharing my expertise in both retail and business banking and driving positive change for our customers, members and communities,” she added. “I’m really looking forward to working with Jo and the wider leadership team to build on our strength and successes.”
